WISE MIND: Help with…

PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)

PTSD happens when a person experiences or is exposed to serious trauma, directly or indirectly. There is a natural protective aspect to the brain, and it can hold on to those experiences well past the threat of the trauma. A person with PTSD may have recurrent thoughts about the event, nightmares, re-living the event, physical symptoms of intense fear, or trying to avoid thinking about anything associated with the event or events. Traumatic events can range from assault, to war, to car accidents, or other experiences of abuse or violence. There are good treatments for PTSD and Wise Mind clinical staff can discuss these with you or your family member during the initial assessment.
